Green finance is a global trend, including in Vietnam. It is no longer an option but a condition for businesses to access preferential capital and develop sustainably.

According to Dr. Trần Minh Hải, Vice Rector of the School of Public Policy and Rural Development, the rapid development of green finance opens great opportunities for businesses moving towards sustainable development. Common forms of green finance include green loans, green bonds, climate funds…
“In the context of the world aiming for net-zero by 2050, green finance becomes a strategic competitive tool. Businesses slow to adapt will face higher costs and risks in the long term. In 2023 alone, over 550 billion USD of green bonds were issued on the market. Many large organizations such as the World Bank, IFC, Apple, Tesla have also participated in issuing or investing in green bonds. This is now considered one of the popular capital mobilization tools for environmental projects,” Mr. Hải shared at the panel discussion “Green Finance and the Net Zero Roadmap: Challenges – Opportunities – Actions.”
Dr. Lê Hoàng Thế, Director of VOS Holdings Ecosystem Co., Ltd., acting as a consulting expert, said before participating in the carbon credit market, businesses need to be surveyed on capacity, clearly define goals, ability to create credits, and efficiency compared to investment costs. At the same time, businesses need to clearly understand green capital sources, documentation requirements, and how to “greenify” documents to increase access opportunities.
Mr. Nguyễn Huy, General Director of Certification and Food Industry at Intertek Vietnam, shared: “The biggest challenge now is that businesses lack clear green evidence, untrained personnel, and limited financial resources to build appropriate monitoring systems.”
His advice to businesses is to build an internal team knowledgeable in green finance and proactively seek consulting units for long-term strategies.
